The rapper-producer earned the number one spot due to the success of his Beats by Dre headphones, which account for over half of the high-end headphone market. Beats by Dre made up $100 million of the Doctor’s pretax $110 million earnings.Cheap Beats By Dre.
Handset maker HTC paid $300 million for a 51 percent stake in Beats by Dre last year.Beats By Dre.
Rounding out the top five are Sean “Diddy” Combs, Jay-Z, Kanye West, and Lil Wayne.Beats Tour.
Similar to Dr. Dre, much of Diddy’s earnings had nothing to do with tour revenue or album sales. $45 million came from the sale of Ciroc vodka, which he became brand ambassador of in 2007. $38 million of Jay-Z’s earnings came from his stakes in the Brooklyn Nets, cosmetic company Carol’s Daughter, and other ventures. $35 million of Mr. West’s earnings are due to the Watch the Throne album and tour partnership with Jay-Z. Lil Wayne earned $27 million thanks to the success of Tha Carter IV, his Mountain Dew sponsorship, and his Trukfit clothing line.
Finishing out the top ten are Drake ($20.5 million), Cash Money co-founder Birdman ($20 million), Nicki Minaj ($15.5 million), Eminem ($15 million), and Ludacris ($12 million). Eminem sold more albums last decade than any other artist, earning most of his money due to an extensive back catalog and occasional tours. Ludacris’ earnings are largely due to his movie roles, Soul headphone line, and Conjure cognac investments. The Atlanta rapper said:
“We work so hard that we never get a real chance to stop and reflect on what we’ve done sometimes. So the FORBES list is a great representation of, ‘You know what, wow, we are out here working as hard as hell!’”
The Cash Kings 2012 list will appear in the September 24 issue of Forbes.

Cowell 10th spot on celeb rich list
Simon Cowell has slipped down the celebrity rich list, after taking in ￡57 million.Cheap Beats By Dre.
After the X Factor boss's 2011 earnings stayed exactly the same as in 2010, he slid from ninth to tenth place in Forbes' Highest-Paid Celebrities List, the Daily Mail reports.
Oprah Winfrey was the highest paid celebrity - she is estimated to have earned ￡104 million between May 2011 and May 2012.
She beat Transformers: Dark Of The Moon director Michael Bay, who came second with ￡101 million.Beats By Dre.
Third place went to War Horse and The Adventures Of Tintin director Steven Spielberg, who earned ￡82 million.
Jerry Bruckheimer was in fourth place with ￡72 million. His 2011 movie Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides grossed over a billion dollars at the global box office, making it the highest-earning film of the series.
Record producer Dr Dre was in fifth place, mostly thanks to his Beats by Dr Dre headphones.
Simon's current UK X Factor has lost viewers compared to last year's series, while his US version did not gain as big an audience as he predicted.

Dr. Dre, Britney Spears Top Forbes’ List Of Richest Celebrities
Forbes has released its annual list of the Top 20 Highest-Paid Celebrities and in a surprising turn of events Dr. Dre is the top-ranking musician on the list. Following Oprah Winfrey, Michael Bay, Steven Spielberg and Jerry Bruckheimer, the rapper, who hasn’t released a new album since 1999, comes in at No. 5 with $110 million.Cheap Beats By Dre.
. As it turns out Dr. Dre has earned his many millions not from making music but from his line of headphones, Beats By Dre. Forbes notes, “In August handset maker HTC paid $300 million for a 51% stake in Beats by Dr. Dre, the headphone company he co-founded with Interscope chief Jimmy Iovine in 2006. Each owned about a third of the company, pocketing about $100 million apiece, before taxes, from last summer’s deal.” Score.Beats By Dr Dre.
. Other musicians on the list include Elton John, who comes in at No. 12 with $80 million, and Britney Spears, who clocks in at No. 20 with $58. John’s cash comes largely from his live performances, including a stint in Las Vegas, as well as his animated film Gnomeo and Juliet. Spears, for her part, earned some of her income by playing 75 shows in the past year. But much of Spears’ dough comes from endorsements and a fragrance line with Elizabeth Arden.
. Those three are the only actual musicians on the list (are you surprised by the lack of Katy Perry and Lady Gaga?) but also on the list are The X Factor leader Simon Cowell, who earned $90 million in the last year, and American Idol host Ryan Seacrest. You can check out the full list here.
. Did you expect that Dr. Dre would be a higher earner than most of these celebs? To be fair he only tops the list because he pocketed the cash from his headphones deal in the last year, but still we didn’t realize the rapper was worth so much. What do you think of Forbes’ list? Do you wish you have that many millions of dollars? Tell us in the comments.

Beats by Dr Dre Wireless review
We are now several models into the Beats by Dr Dre line of headphones and speakers, and as ever, you know what you’re getting with this range – namely, an intense and heightened bass response. Therefore, audiophiles and purists are not likely to be interested in the latest Beats by Dr Dre offering, a good looking Bluetooth headphone pair that offers powerful audio, along with bass response that's extremely boosted. The headphones are aesthetically pleasing and well made, but the price is a bit on the high side at the ￡210 mark.monster beats.
Design
Beats does branding better than most, and you immediately know what you're looking at. The headphones boast a shiny plastic band and "b" logo, combined with either white or black frames with grey and red highlights. The black, supra-aural (on-ear) earpads for the Beats Wireless are plush and comfortable, and though they sit on the ear, they are almost (but not quite) large enough to enclose it like a circumaural pair would.beats pro.
Most headphone pairs with well-cushioned earcups also have well-padded headbands, but the interior of the Beats Wireless headband employs a thin, rubbery cushion that offers very little in the way of comfort. For short listening periods, you're unlikely to notice, but wear these for an hour or so, and it can start to feel like it's pressing on your skull a little too much.
No one will accuse Beats of not including enough controls on its Bluetooth headphones. The right earcup has a Power/Pairing button, a Play/Pause control, along with Track Forward and Backward buttons, and Volume controls. Though it can take a while to memorise the position of each, they are thoughtfully covered with Braille-like bumps so you can feel where to press.
Included with the headphones is a USB charging cable, a 3.5mm audio cable with phone controls, a cleaning cloth, and a padded zip-up carrying case that the headphones fold into. Both cables (and the cloth) are the trademark Beats red. The inclusion of the audio cable is a thoughtful move – one that manufacturers often skip. This allows you to use the headphones in passive mode, without depleting the battery (or when the battery has already been depleted).
The Beats by Dr Dre Wireless headphones offer support for Bluetooth SBC, aptX, and AAC codecs, and pairing with Bluetooth mobile devices is a simple and quick process.
Performance
Audiophiles and purists tend to prefer headphones with flat responses or less exaggerated bass response, and are not likely to enjoy the Wireless Beats. These headphones have serious low-end, to the extent that classical music such as John Adams' "The Chairman Dances" can occasionally sound almost comical, with the already ominous, intense presence of lower register strings, brass, and percussion boosted to the point where they sound more like massive synthesisers rather than acoustic instruments, overpowering the rest of the mix with added rumble and resonance.
If the world were only for audio purists, though, what a boring world it would be. The Beats line works best, generally, with modern mixes for pop, rock, and hip hop, where deep, sub-bass frequencies are often par for the course. Not only can the Beats Wireless reproduce intense low end, like the electronic synth beat at the opening of the Knife's "Silent Shout" without a hint of distortion at maximum volume (on both the sound source and the headphones), but it sounds good doing so.
It may not be the most accurate reproduction of sound, but it can feel as if you're in a club or at a concert when playing Jay-Z and Kanye West's "No Church in the Wild" or Lower Dens' "Brains." If the intense thump of the kick drum or rumble of a bass line is what you're looking for, who cares what audiophiles say? The Beats Wireless delivers the rest of the frequency range with a reasonable enough level of integrity so that you can enjoy being a bass fiend without sacrificing too much clarity, though some mixes can lean towards the muddy end of the spectrum.
Verdict
While this Beats by Dr Dre offering looks great and offers powerful audio, it is a tad pricey, and cost-wise it pushes into the realm of headphones that are usually more devoted to accurate audio reproduction. When you pay for Beats, you are paying for powerful audio, but also for looks and Dr Dre's implicit endorsement.
However, there’s no doubting that this is an excellent wireless choice for the target audience of bass lovers, with its distortion-free, thumping sound, not to mention passive/wired functionality. But I can't help feeling it would have been nice to see these headphones pitched a bit lower than the ￡200 mark, as opposed to over it.

Beats by Dr. Dre Headphones Banned by British Olympic Team
It seems that the British Olympic Team is not the biggest fans of the Beats By Dre headphones as it took the step of banning its athletes from wearing them late last week.
Apparently the Beats by Dr. Dre headphones have been popular at the Olympics this year as you’ve barely been able to turn on an event on television without seeing the “b” logo pop-up. While you would think that perhaps the athletes were paid for this endorsement, it turns out it was just some smart marketing on the part of the company.Beats Studio.
When the participants of the London 2012 games arrived in the city, boxes of the Beats headphones were delivered to the hotels and Olympic Village with the headphones inside. While some were the plain white models, others sported the colors and flags of the respective countries, and what patriotic athlete could resist wearing those?
The British Olympic team in particular were quite taken with the models adorned with the Union Flag, and soccer player Jack Butland even tweeted his enthusiasm for the brand.
That was where the trouble began as Beats didn’t pay for the product placement, instead, the British team has a sponsorship deal with Panasonic. According to the International Olympic Committee’s Rule 40, no athlete may endorse a product they have a personal sponsorship with while at the games on or off the field, and that includes social media. The use of the Beats headphones would actually fall under this rule, and could even lead to the expulsion of a team member should the violation be found to be egregious enough.
On Thursday the British team banned the use of the Beats by Dr. Dre headphones until after the games, but did say that they could use ones made by Panasonic while there should the team members need to listen to anything while in public.
A tip of the hat to Beats for coming up with the Guerilla style marketing. For the cost of manufacturing several thousands pairs of earphones, a global audience has seen the brand. Even if the British did ban them, at least we’re still talking about them.
